You don't need to drive for days to feel the silence of the desert. Just 40 km south-west of Marrakech, the Agafay Desert unfolds as a vast, moon-like landscape of rolling stone hills and dry riverbeds, with the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains rising dramatically on the horizon. Unlike the Sahara's sand dunes, Agafay is a rocky desert of ochre and golden hills — and it is one of the most photogenic escapes from the city. On this private trip, your driver picks you up from your hotel or riad and takes you out of Marrakech through olive groves and small farming villages. Within an hour, the city gives way to wide open space. You'll make stops at the best panoramic viewpoints over the plateau, with time to walk, take photos and simply enjoy the calm. Your route can include a view over the Lalla Takerkoust lake, whose turquoise waters contrast beautifully with the dry hills and the Atlas peaks behind. If you'd like to add more adventure, camel rides, quad biking or a meal at one of Agafay's desert camps can be arranged locally at extra cost. The trip lasts about 4 to 5 hours, with a flexible departure time — late afternoon is especially beautiful, when the hills glow golden at sunset. Because it's private, you travel at your own pace with only your group in the vehicle.

    Pick-up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at the time agreed with the operator. Drive south-west through olive groves and farming villages to the Agafay plateau (about 1 hour). Stop at panoramic viewpoints over the stone desert and the Atlas Mountains, with time to walk and take photos, and a view towards Lalla Takerkoust lake if you wish. Optional activities such as camel rides or quad biking can be added on site at extra cost. Return to Marrakech about 4–5 hours after pick-up.
